UAW divests from Israel

The 400,000-member United Auto Workers is on track to be the first U.S. union to divest from Israel, following a resolution passed June 18 by convention delegates gathered in Detroit. Like other unions, UAW has reserves, some of which are invested in stocks and bonds. In this case that included at least $400,000 in government bonds from the state of Israel out of a total investment portfolio worth $857 million. The convention resolution calls out the state of Israel for killing at least 70,000 Palestinians in Gaza and it amends the union constitution to say that no UAW funds may be invested in Israel bonds.
