In an article in our Sept. 19 issue about unionists appointed by Governor Tina Kotek to state commissions, the Labor Press reported that UA Local 290 Recording Secretary Iris Gandarilla was named to the Oregon State Apprenticeship and Training Council. That appointment was since withdrawn because Gandarilla no longer works for the union apprenticeship training center. Local 290 Training Coordinator Dave Burger has been named instead, subject to confirmation by the Oregon Senate when it next meets.
Chaired by Oregon Labor Commissioner Christina Stephenson, the council is the governing body that approves new apprenticeship committees, programs, and policies. It also makes decisions about individual apprentices’ registration, discipline, and placement.
