Oregon Symphony raises wages in new contract

Union musicians who play in the Oregon Symphony ratified a three-year contract Jan. 4 that raises wages 6% in year one and 3.5% in years two and three. The contract also increases paid sick time for COVID-related illnesses, expands break times, and raises the annual instrument maintenance allowance to $1,500 from $950.

Musicians Local 99 represents about 80 tenured instrumentalists and about 100 substitutes in the symphony. Under the new contract, tenured players will earn $245 per performance this year, up from $230 under the previous agreement. Subs will earn $200 per performance, up from $189.
