Teachers union demand: No more mice in school

Members of the Portland Assocation of Teachers are circulating an online petition supporting their bargaining agenda at Portland Public Schools. And the goals are quite sweeping in this year’s contract negotiations.

Among the demands: Buildings that are free of mice and mold. Increased security measures like doors that lock from the inside. Extension of public school to every child over the age of 3. An enforceable limit to class sizes and caseloads. An end to standardized tests beyond state mandates. And educator-led professional development on racial equity and restorative justice.
