Six members and officers of Machinists Lodge 1005 were among a group of protesters who interrupted a talk by the CEO of Adidas at a downtown Portland hotel. Adidas North America President Rupert Campbell was speaking at an event organized by the Portland Business Journal in front of an audience of 250 when a protester began criticizing Adidas for the unpaid wages of contracted factory workers in Indonesia and Cambodia. Next, Local 63 president Aubria Hopes and several others unfurled a banner that said “Adidas steals from its workers,” and started chanting. Campbell decided to end the event and left the stage, promising to return at a later date.
