Nurses are getting vocal

Oregon Nurses Association and Oregon Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals have been trying to raise the alarm about overwork and unsafe staffing levels, but hospitals don’t seem to be taking aggressive action to address the crisis, which is leading to a vicious cycle of burnout.

On Jan. 13 and 20, union nurses and their allies held pickets outside first Kaiser Sunnyside and then Providence Portland. Joined by SEIU, the unions will be pushing to pass state legislation that mandates safe staffing levels.
