New leader sworn in at Oregon AFL-CIO

Oregon AFL-CIO has a new number two officer. At the Dec. 8 meeting of the union federation’s Executive Board, Aida Aranda was unopposed for secretary-treasurer, was declared elected by acclamation, and was sworn into office immediately after. 

Aranda has served since 2017 as training director of the Oregon and Southern Idaho Laborers Employers Training Trust. She started as a union laborer and got active in her union, serving as organizer, dispatcher, apprentice coordinator before her current role. 

At the Oregon AFL-CIO she fills a vacancy created in September when AFSCME Local 2619 member Christy O’Neill resigned in order to in order to accept a new unrepresented job as child care mentor for Oregon AFSCME’s United We Heal Training Trust.

Secretary-treasurer is a volunteer position, and Aranda will continue on as Laborers training director.

Her appointment as secretary-treasurer stands until the federation’s next convention, Sept. 20-23, 2023, in Bend.
