O’Brien and Zuckerman re-elected at Teamsters

Sean O’Brien and Fred Zuckerman were reelected to a second five-year term as general president and general secretary-treasurer of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Their reelection was confirmed during the union’s June 15-18 convention in Las Vegas.

O’Brien drew criticism from some Teamsters when he led the union to remain neutral in the 2024 presidential race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris and later praised Trump as a guest speaker at the Republican National Convention. Teamsters Vice President John Palmer announced a challenge to O’Brien in the summer of 2024. But in the end no opposing candidates secured the minimum 5% delegate support required under the Teamsters Constitution to appear on the election ballot, allowing the O’Brien-Zuckerman Teamsters United slate to win reelection.

The new term officially begins in March 2027.
