2026 Labor Day picnics

The first Monday of every September is labor’s holiday, celebrated by union members, families, and allies. Below are union picnics in Oregon and Washington on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026.

Portland 

The region’s biggest Labor Day picnic takes place at Oaks Amusement Park, sponsored by the Northwest Oregon Labor Council. 

IMPORTANT NOTE: The picnic is a private event and the park is closed to the general public for the day. To enter the the park you must be a member or guest of the Labor Council or one of the following co-sponsoring organizations: Oregon AFSCME, AFSCME Local 189, Oregon Education Association, IATSE Local 28, SEIU, Teamsters Local 223, AFT Local 3922 (PCCFCE), Boilermakers Local 104, Laborers Local 483, Laborers Local 737, Sheet Metal Workers Local 16, UA Local 290, or UFCW Local 555.

• WHEN 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• WHERE Oaks Amusement Park, 7805 SE Oaks Park Way, Portland
• HOW TO GET THERE Parking can fill up quickly and the road to the park gets congested. Attendees are encouraged to take bus or light rail or park in the adjacent neighborhood and then walk the final distance, or better yet, park near OMSI and take a specially chartered train for free. Starting at 10:30 a.m., the train leaves every hour on the half hour from the Oregon Rail Heritage Center, 2250 SE Water Ave. Returning trains leave every hour on the hour from Oaks Park trhough 4 p.m. with an additional final departure at 4:30 p.m. 
• WHAT TO EXPECT Amusement park rides (you’ll need to get a ride bracelet from the sponsoring organization you’re a member or guest of) food by McKillip’s Catering or from park vendors, live country-rock style music by the Dan Kaufman Band, union-made craft items for sale, and a political program from 12 to 1 p.m. featuring elected officials. 

Bend

Central Oregon Labor Chapter is sponsoring a picnic for union families in Central Oregon.

• WHEN 12 to 3 p.m.
• WHERE Alpenglow Park, 61049 SE 15th St., Bend
• WHAT TO EXPECT Food and drinks, and an incredible playground and splash pad for the kids. Guest speakers will include local union members sharing their stories on the front lines as well as invited local and state politicians who support labor.
• WHAT TO BRING  Lawn chairs and picnic blankets.
• RSVP RSVP here to help the planning committee get an estimated guest count so there’s enough food

Lane County

Lane County Central Labor Chapter is sponsoring a barbecue and picnic for union workers and their families.

• WHEN 12 to 3:30 p.m. 
• WHERE Splash Pad Picnic Shelter, 6100 Thurston Rd., Springfield
• WHAT TO EXPECT Hamburgers, hot dogs, soda, and bottled water.
• WHAT TO BRING Bring a dish to share

Southwest Washington

Southwest Washington Central Labor Council and Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Central Labor Council are cosponsors again this year.

• WHEN 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
• WHERE Haydu Park, 253 Kalama River Rd., Kalama
• WHAT TO EXPECT Food, raffles, and games for union kids and their families. 
• WHAT TO BRING  Chairs, tables, and blankets. Show your union pride by wearing your union gear. There’s not much shade so don’t forget sunscreen, or bring your own shade with a popup tent (weights only, no stakes.) No animals are allowed in the park.
