“Not a dime.” According to Washington Federation of State Employees (AFSCME Council 28), that’s what negotiators for the state of Washington said is available for state employee wage increases. The two sides are negotiating terms for a set of 2027-2029 union contacts that cover 52,000 employees of state agencies and universities.
In protest, the union says it’s planning a “walkout” at noon Aug. 31. But it’s not a strike. It just means members will walk outside on their regularly scheduled lunch break and hold signs.
The current set of collective bargaining agreements covering state employees runs through June 30, 2027.
