To celebrate their new 100% union-built union hall in Redmond, IBEW Local 280 members gathered April 25 for a ribbon-cutting, games, and lunch catered by the husband-and-wife team at Central Oregon Barbecue Company.
The 7,200-square-feet building includes offices, a conference room, and a meeting hall with a capacity of 100.
Tangent-headquartered Local 280 represents electricians in six Willamette Valley counties plus Crook, Jefferson and Deschutes in Central Oregon. The Central Oregon membership has grown from a couple dozen in the early 2000s to more than 400 today. About half the new hall will be rented for now, leaving room for future growth.
