Miller Paint is once again union-made, Painters Local 1094 reports.
Miller is a Portland-based paint maker, founded in 1890. Its production workers were at one time represented by Local 1094, but the company became employee owned in 1999, and workers voted to decertify the union in January 2000.
Last December, Miller was purchased by Rodda Paint Company in partnership with the Cloverdale Group, a paint company based in Surrey, BC, Canada.
Rodda’s production workers are represented by Local 1094.
In March the combined company rebranded as Rodda-Miller Paint Company.
Rodda-Miller is in the process of shutting down the Miller Paint production facility at 12885 NE Whitaker Way and shifting production to Rodda’s manufacturing operation on 6107 N Marine Dr.
Local 1094 representative Fred Hawkins said Rodda offered Miller’s production workers the chance to transfer, and 14 of them took the opportunity.
Based in Tukwila, Washington, Local 1094 represents about 470 paint makers, truck painters, sign makers, and other workers in Washington and Oregon
