Several unionists have been nominated to state advisory board positions by Oregon Governor Tina Kotek. The nominations were announced Sept. 5.
For State Apprenticeship and Training Council, which is chaired by Oregon Labor Commissioner Christina Stephenson, Kotek picked UA Local 290 Recording secretary Iris Gandarilla and also reappointed Brenda Aranda of Oregon Laborers Joint Apprenticeship Training Center. They’ll serve alongside a fellow unionist, Operating Engineers Local 701 member Amanda Swenson, whose term runs through May 2027.
For the Building Codes Structures Board, Kotek reappointed IBEW Local 48 member Marshall McGrady to another four-year term as the building trade representative. The board provides advice to the state on building codes. McGrady, who was formerly political director of Local 48, became training director of NECA-IBEW Electrical Training Center in July.
Kotek also reappointed Elevator Constructors Local 23 business manager Robert Larzalere to the Electrical and Elevator Board as its designated journeyman elevator installer. The board’s vice-chair is Jon Flegel, business manager of IBEW Local 659.
She is also reappointing Susan King to Oregon Health and Science University Board of Directors, King is a registered nurse and was executive director of the Oregon Nurses Association from 1989 to 2017.
The Senate Committee on Rules is expected to consider and approve the nominations this month.
