Union members put their marching, chanting, and sign-making skills to good use at the Portland Pride Parade July 20. Portland Pride, as described on its website, is a festival meant to increase visibility and celebrate the successes of groups and individuals in the LGBTQIA2S+ community.
The parade drew an estimated 10,000 attendees and participants, including about 200 who marched with their fellow union members.
The labor contingent included members of IBEW Local 48, Laborers Local 737, ATU Local 757, SEIU’s Lavender Caucus, AFSCME, Letter Carriers Branch 82, Painters Local 10, UNITE HERE, and the Federal Unionist Network among others. IBEW Local 48 and the Oregon AFL-CIO also had booths at the two-day festival.
