Tiffany Ann Thompson, who spent years helping recruit and retain women to the trades, died by suicide March 30 at the age of 39.
At the nonprofit Oregon Tradeswomen, Thompson helped train women in the trades to speak to women and girls about careers in the skilled trades. She also helped develop the “Green Dot” program, which trains bystanders to intervene when they witness coworkers experiencing harassment.
Thompson was born in Roosevelt, Utah, Oct. 30, 1985. She graduated valedictorian from Wasatch Academy, a Utah boarding school. After earning a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Idaho, she worked as an advocate for survivors of domestic violence. Later she worked as a dispatcher at the Portland 911 call center, as an organizer at Oregon AFSCME in 2019, and as manager for Construction Career Pathways Project for Oregon’s Metro regional government.
In 2024, she moved to Rhode Island with her partner and worked as kitchen manager at an organic grocery store.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 11 and she was buried at Pullman Cemetery in Pullman, Washington.
