Meeting at the NECA-IBEW Training Center in Portland for its annual conference April 26-27, Pacific Northwest Labor History Association honored Jim Strassmaier with its Lifetime Achievement Award. Strassmaier — a longtime oral history specialist at the Oregon Historical Society — worked to curate an archive of recorded interviews of prominent labor leaders and activists. It was a labor of love, so even after he retired in 2001, he kept contributing to the Oregon Labor Oral History archive for another decade. Originally recorded on cassette tape, many are now digitized and can be downloaded or listened to online.
