Raising funds for kids with cancer

A union-sponsored St. Patrick’s Day party is expected to net over $25,000 for Children’s Cancer Association this year once expenses are tallied.

The two-day annual festival takes place at Paddy’s Bar & Grill at 65 SW Yamhill St. in Portland. For a $25 admission, it features Irish music and dancers, bagpipes, and copious quantities of Guinness, Irish whiskey, and corned beef and cabbage. Proceeds benefit the Children’s Cancer Association, a Portland-based nonprofit that provides trained musicians, mentors, and family trips to the Oregon Coast for children diagnosed with cancer.

Top sponsors this year were International Union of Operating Engineers Local 701, its training center, and its signatory contractors association Northwest Crane Owners Association, as well as Laborers Local 737 and Summit Reconstruction & Restoration. Other sponsors included IBEW Local 48, Painters Local 10, Operating Engineers Local 612, and over a dozen firms that serve union benefit trusts.
