Acting U.S. Secretary of Labor Julie Su visited Oregon for a whirlwind two-day tour of training programs Feb. 22-23. Her visit was intended to promote the Biden administration’s record on infrastructure investments.
Her first stop was United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 290 training center in Springfield. Su is actually the second secretary of labor to visit; her predecessor Marty Walsh was there in 2021.
Like Walsh, Su’s business attire kept her from being totally hands-on, but she did don a welding hood and get into a booth where UA Local 290 apprentice Mariah Daughtrey demonstrated welding.
