Everything is awesome? At Legoland, not so much

Legoland is fighting an attempt by ride technicians to join the Machinists union.

On Sept. 18, Machinists District Lodge 947 turned in signatures seeking a union election for 42 ride engineers and water quality workers at the Legoland theme park in Carlsbad, California. In response, the company hired noted anti-union law firm Littler Mendelson. It also brought in anti-union consultants to hold mandatory anti-union meetings and one-on-one sessions with workers.

Workers in the proposed unit inspect, maintain, and repair theme park rides. As reported by The Guardian, they want a union because of low pay and arbitrary treatment by management. The California theme park is one of three Legoland theme parks in the United States and 10 worldwide.

No date had been set for the union election at press time.
