The Washington State Legislature will consider a bill next year that would make strikers eligible for unemployment benefits. Senate Bill 5777, filed Dec. 4, is sponsored by Washington State Senator Karen Keiser of Des Moines and has 15 cosponsors.

As reported by the Washington State Standard, a nonprofit news organization, the bill would make striking workers eligible to receive unemployment assistance beginning the second week after walking off the job.

The 2024 session of the Washington Legislature begins Jan. 8.
