AFSCME Local 189 officer Chris Flanary is one of the first to declare as a candidate for the November 2024 election of an all-new Portland City Council. Portland voters last November approved a city charter change that replaces the existing commission form of government with a new 12-member city council consisting of three council members for each of four new geographic districts. Flanary is running for District 3, which covers most of inner Southeast Portland.
Flanary has been a Portland Housing Bureau employee since 2013 and serves as Local 189 organizer, an elected position. Â
