On the morning of Aug. 19, the Carver Hangar pub in Boring briefly became a biker bar (well, a biker breakfast joint anyway). It was the first stop on Machinists Lodge 63’s annual motorcycle poker run fundraiser, known as the Chuck Drake Memorial Guide Dog Dash. Carver Hangar wait staff were decked out in t-shirts for the event, which raises money for the union’s sponsored charity, Guide Dogs of America.

This year, 23 motorcyclists (and one former motorcyclist in a Corvette convertible) took part and raised about $1,500 said volunteer organizer John Kleiboecker, Lodge 63’s former president.  This year’s route took riders around Mt. Hood National Forest, with stops in Estacada and Detroit Lake. Contestants draw a card at each stop, and the winner is the one who ends up with the best hand, poker rules. This year that was Jill Lukens, wife of Machinists District Lodge W24 rep Will Lukens.
