There’s a new union music company in town. In January, musicians employed by Portland Baroque Orchestra asked its board to voluntarily recognize their union, American Federation of Musicians Local 99. The board wanted to wait until a new executive director was installed. Hilary Butler began the job April 3, and within days signed a recognition agreement. It covers several dozen musicians and librarians employed part-time by the nonprofit.
