Machinists Lodge 63 member Carl Gibson will be representing his employer the Boeing Company at a national truck driving competition Aug. 16-19 in Columbus, Ohio. That’s because for the second year in a row, he blew away other contenders in the Washington State Truck Driving Championship.
The event, held April 15 in Pasco, Washington, drew 143 drivers, including nine employed by Boeing. They competed in nine different classes of trucks. Gibson’s was a three-axle tractor trailer. The competitions included a written test, pre-trip inspection, and solving problems while driving a course.Â
No one is allowed to dominate, so win or lose in Columbus, Gibson won’t be allowed to compete a third year in a row in the same category in the Washington championship.
