At the Feb. 27 monthly delegates meeting of the Northwest Oregon Labor Council, Laurie Wimmer was elected executive secretary-treasurer by acclamation, and sworn into office immediately after. Two others had been nominated—cdavid cottrill of IATSE Local 488 and Jey Alford of the PSU Faculty Association, but both withdrew.

Wimmer is a retired longtime lobbyist for the teachers union Oregon Education Association. She fills a vacancy created when Thomas Mosher left in November after just six months in the position. Executive secretary-treasurer is a full-time staff position with great responsibility: lead and represent the labor movement in the Portland metro area, promoting solidarity among unions and a pro-worker agenda for local elected officials.
