NLRB certifies Amazon Labor Union win

Share

More than nine months after votes were counted, the Amazon Labor Union (ALU) has been officially certified by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) as the union representing more than 8,000 Amazon workers at a Staten Island, New York warehouse.

Rather than accept the union’s April 1, 2022 election win—the first at any U.S. Amazon facility— Amazon filed 25 legal objections to the election. But an NLRB hearings officer overruled every one of them. Amazon’s lawyers appealed the decision, and on Jan. 11, an NLRB regional director ruled that the company’s objections were indeed baseless, and certified the election results. Amazon has until Feb. 9 to appeal the ruling.
