Workers at the National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF) filed for a union election on Dec. 20, seeking to join OPEIU Local 11. A day later, the Beaverton-headquartered nonprofit announced it would voluntarily recognize union representation.
“We believe unions are an important vehicle for worker justice and look forward to continuing to work with all staff to make NNAF a workplace that embodies our shared values,” the organization said on social media. “National Network of Abortion Funds’ mission includes a commitment to organizing at the intersection of racial, reproductive and economic justice. In line with that commitment, NNAF leadership is committed to voluntarily recognizing union efforts.”
NNAF supports a nationwide network of local abortion funds, which provide financial and logistical help for people who can’t afford abortions. It was founded in 1993. The new bargaining unit will cover 26 employees.
