OHSU workers ratify contract

More than 7,000 AFSCME-represented workers at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) will get 17% raises over three years under a contract they ratified in early October.

AFSCME Local 328’s new agreement guarantees across-the-board raises of 7% in year one and 5% in years two and three. It also includes immediate ratification bonuses of $3,000 for full-time and $1,500 for part-time workers.

At the end of August, AFSCME had declared bargaining had reached an impasse, and workers voted by 93% to authorize a strike if they couldn’t get an acceptable deal, but the two sides later came to agreement.

Local 328 reported it was the second-highest turnout ever in a contract vote; 3,370 workers voted to ratify the contract and 345 voted to reject it.

The bargaining team developed a detailed calculator for workers to estimate their total wage increase. The calculator shows a full-time worker making $20 per hour will get a roughly $10,400 pay increase over three years, or 25.3%, under the ratified contract.

The new contract runs through June 30, 2025.
