Workers at New Seasons Market stores in Portland and Hillsboro will be mailed ballots this month for three separate union organizing efforts.
Two campaigns launched the same day, May 27, but they involve different unions. Workers at the Seven Corners store (1954 SE Division St. in Portland) are affiliating with the independent New Seasons Labor Union. The Orenco Station store campaign in Hillsboro is led by United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 555. Each store has about 100 employees who would be included in the bargaining unit.
Company management pushed for in-person elections, but the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) directed a vote-by-mail election. Ballots will be mailed for both stores in mid-August. The Orenco Station ballots will be counted Sept. 1 and the Seven Corners ballots on Sept. 7.
Workers say a handful of store policies are driving their union interest, including rules covering scheduling, paid leave and attendance.
In June, New Seasons Labor Union announced the launch of a union campaign at the New Seasons store in Portland’s Sellwood neighborhood. Ballots will be mailed Aug. 18 and counted Sept. 8.
