Members of Bakers Local 364 elected a new secretary treasurer in officer elections held in December.
Local 364 represents about 500 workers at Nabisco and Frito-Lay plants in Portland and at contract baker Smith Cookies in McMinnville. The local’s Frito-Lay’s contract is up for renegotiation this year.
Running unopposed, Cameron Taylor was re-elected business agent, the local’s top office, which is a full-time position.
Mike Burlingham, Local 364 vice president and a longtime union steward at Nabisco, outpolled incumbent Victor Weekes to become secretary-treasurer, the local’s Number 2 office and a part-time position. Burlingham is a 14-year Nabisco employee responsible for pest control at the bakery. He became very active during the five-week strike last August and September, and frequently served as a spokesperson getting the union’s message out to news media.Â
Also elected were:
- Trustees Judy Schultz and Ruben Arroyo
- Executive Board Bill Bates (Nabisco); and David Gilmore and Dustin Gunderson (Frito-Lay).
Terms of office are three years. The other half of the executive board seats are up for election this year.
