Delegates to the Metal Trades Council of Portland and Vicinity held a Jan. 10 election to name its top officers.

Scott Oldham

Scott Oldham, Painters and Allied Trades District Council 5 business representative, was elected as president of the Metal Trades Council, which is a coalition of 10 unions that represents workers at the Swan Island shipyards in Portland, as well as facilities in Clackamas and Vancouver.

Oldham has served as Metal Trades Council president since late 2020, when he was elected to complete a term vacated by former president Pat Christensen, who retired.

Oldham says his priorities will remain consistent with the Council’s focus in the past: He’ll emphasize expanding the organization in Oregon and expanding contracts with new employers. Also elected:

  • Vice president Brian Richart, assistant business manager of Boilermakers Local 104
  • Executive secretary-treasurer  Will Lukens, business rep for Machinists District Lodge W24
  • Recording secretary  Mike Bridges, business rep for IBEW Local 48
  • Sergeant at arms Bill Elzie, business agent at Teamsters Local 162.
  • Trustees Rick Ohmie, business rep for Laborers Local 737; Shawn Eckleberry, business agent at Sheet Metal Local 16; and Tom Wishard, field rep at Operating Engineers Local 701.

All positions are for four-year terms.
