As catastrophic wildfires forced at least 40,000 Oregonians to evacuate, local labor organizations got busy connecting members to resources.
In Jackson County in Southern Oregon, which is proving to be one of the worst-hit areas, Oregon AFL-CIO field representative Misha Hernandez is helping coordinate assistance for over 100 union members who lost their homes in the fire, including at least 36 UFCW members, 76 nurse union members, and eight members of OSEA.
Statewide, Labor’s Community Service Agency (LCSA) is paying for hotel stays and so far has distributed over $10,000 in emergency Fred Meyer cards to displaced union households.
