BAD DOGE Hundreds of federal workers and other union members took part in a Feb. 11 “Save Our Civil Service” rally hosted by the American Federation of Government Employees across from the U.S. Capitol. Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, is attracting much of their ire. Having contributed more than $250 million to help elect Trump, Musk has been put in charge of an initiative called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), rooting out what he sees as waste in federal agencies. Much of the work has involved canceling contracts for DEI training and purging government web pages that have objectionable words like “diversity.” Musk has entered into the work with a gleeful cruelty. On Feb. he posted to his X.com account: “Spent the weekend feeding USAID into the wood chipper.” | Photo courtesy AFL-CIO
