The Machinists union is celebrating the July 11 release of Local 695 member Maximo Londonio, a forklift driver at Crown Cork and Seal in Lacey, Washington.
Londonio is a permanent resident but was arrested at SeaTac airport May 15 returning from a trip with his wife to his native Philippines. He was held at an immigration detention facility in Tacoma until a judge terminated the immigration case against him and ordered his release.
“We are incredibly thankful that Maximo is finally home with his family where he belongs,” said union president Brian Bryant in a press statement. “But the fact that he was detained for two months without cause is unacceptable.”
