Oregon Tradeswomen — a nonprofit program that recruits and prepares women for careers in the trades — held its annual Build With Us gala Sept. 13.

The event is both a fundraiser and a chance to bestow honors. This year’s “Woman on the Rise” awardees included IBEW Local 48 Journeyman Electrician Michaela Slizoski, Journeyman Lead Carpenter Isabelle Morgan, LiUNA 737 Journeyman Laborer Barbara Diamondbackeyez, and Piledrivers Local 196 member Lauren Ayers.

The group’s Wanda Hall Legacy Award went to Cement Masons Local 555 journeyman Valerie Carroll and Boyter Brothers project engineer Maxine Lachnite-Pelker.

And its Equity Champion Award was presented to Winta Yohannes, executive director of the Albina Vision Trust, a non-profit working to revitalize the 94-acre lower Albina neighborhood.
