Stagehands and production workers at northwest Portland dance studio BodyVox are unionizing with IATSE Local 28. A union petition filed with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) on Jan. 18 seeks to bring 11 workers into the local.

The union campaign would cover stage carpenters, lighting technicians and electricians, sound technicians and engineers, riggers, flymen, truck operators and loaders, forklift operators, personnel lift operators, audiovisual technicians, camera operators, spot operators, wardrobe technicians/dressers, hair/wig and makeup workers, parking attendants and space managers. They work at the BodyVox dance center at 1201 NW 17th Ave. in Portland.

Founded in 1997, Bodyvox has toured the world, producing 30 original shows, nine films and three operas, according to its website. The Oregonian has described BodyVox as Portland’s “most popular and internationally renowned dance troupe.”
