Bloomberg reported March 6 that the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) will stop providing free “card check” services.
FMCS is an independent federal agency that provides mediators to help resolve labor disputes. Following an executive order by President Joe Biden, the agency announced in 2022 that its staff would be available at no cost to verify cards when employers agree to recognize a union based on verification of signed union authorization cards.
Now, unions and employers will need to use paid third-party services to count the cards.
