Unions pull Hillsboro candidate’s endorsement after blowup over Gaza

Several labor organizations retracted their endorsements of a candidate for Hillsboro City Council as of Oct. 24.

AFT Local 4671 (Hillsboro Classified United), UFCW Local 555, and the Oregon Working Families Party had endorsed real estate broker Marc Grambo in the race, but withdrew their endorsements citing “conduct unbecoming of an elected official.”

Grambo used ugly and abusive language toward a constituent who disagreed with his support for Israel’s war in Gaza, calling her an evil monster who kills Jewish babies and rapes Jewish women, and adding that he hopes her child gets taken away from her. Temperament and judgement matter in public service, and the labor organizations felt those comments crossed a line. Grambo also lost the Washington County Democrats and Hillsboro Herald newspaper endorsements.
