Labor Council launches website for union-backed candidates

Working for a Better Portland — a new political action committee formed by three local labor organizations — launched a website Oct. 15 to promote union-endorsed candidates.

The group, which announced its existence on Labor Day, is led by the Northwest Oregon Labor Council (NOLC) and supported by 17 labor organizations and the Oregon Working Families Party. NOLC — the Portland-metro-area council of AFL-CIO unions — has 103 affiliated local unions representing 58,922 workers in Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, and Columbia counties.

The new site, workingforabetterportland.com, lists unions supporting 12 candidates for Portland City Council. It also explains how Portland’s new ranked choice voting system works, and provides voters tools to find out which of the new districts they’re in.

[CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article listed just NOLC, Laborers Local 737, Portland Fire Fighters Association (IAFF Local 43) as sponsors of Working for A Better Portland. The Labor Press regrets the omission.]
