Oregon State Senator Kathleen Taylor and State Rep. Dacia Grayber were singled out for honors last month by Ironworkers Local 29.
They each chair their chamber’s labor committee and helped pass legislation tying the prevailing wage to collectively bargained agreements, creating labor standards for offshore wind projects, and removing an ODOT exemption from rules mandating opportunities for apprentices.
Each was given a plaque and a spud wrench by business manager Jason Fussell. A wicked looking metal bar with a spike on one end and a socket on the other, a spud wrench is one of the distinctive tools of the iron worker trade, used to line up bolt holes and tighten bolts in girders. No word yet on whether Grayber or Taylor intend to wield it on the House and Senate floor.
