Musicians Local 99 asked the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) on March 18 to hold a union election at Ethos Music Center. The bargaining unit would consist of 34 teachers and staff at the center, a non-profit children’s music school in North Portland. Staff first asked the group’s directors and board to voluntarily recognize the union, then went to the NLRB when they got no response. Ethos subsequently hired Littler Mendelson, a notorious antiunion firm.
The NLRB set April 24 as the date for the election, which will take place in person at the center.Â
