Silver Falls School District bus drivers voted 23-4 to join the Teamsters Local 324 in ballots counted Jan. 9. The unit covers 45 workers at bus contractor First Student’s branch in Silverton, Oregon.
First Student is owned by EQT, a global investment company based in Sweden. First Student works with more than 1,300 school districts in the U.S. and Canada, including about 40 in Oregon. Drivers and bus monitors in some of those districts are represented by unions, including, locally: Amalgamated Transit Union Local 757, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 555, Oregon School Employees Association, and Teamsters Local 206.
Teamsters Local 324 is based in Salem and represents more than 1,500 workers in Central Oregon.
