UFCW Local 555’s campaign to recall Eugene state representative Paul Holvey was overwhelmingly rejected by House District 8 voters Oct. 3, with 89.97% voting to keep Holvey, 12,060 to 1,345.
Local 555 blamed Holvey for the failure of its bill to require cannabis retailers to sign labor peace agreements in which a union would waive workers’ right to strike in return for employers giving them a chance to pitch workers on joining.
Local 555 spent about $344,000 on the recall campaign, according to state campaign finance records.
Holvey has long been considered a close ally of labor in the legislature, and Local 555 was alone among unions in seeking his recall. At least 14 other unions endorsed Holvey’s effort to beat the recall.
