PCUN, the nonprofit farmworker advocacy group, is raising funds to help those affected by a horrific May 17 crash on I-5. Eleven farmworkers were heading home in a passenger van when a semi truck slammed into the van, killing seven of them and injuring the other four. The truck driver faces charges of manslaughter, driving under the influence of intoxicants, assault and reckless driving.
The workers were immigrant and migrant workers from Mexico. The Mexican Consulate is helping repatriate victims’ remains to their families in Mexico. At press time, PCUN supporters had contributed more than $65,000.
