Mark Medina has joined the staff of Portland Jobs with Justice as Worker Center organizer.
Medina is a longtime Burgerville worker who played a big role in efforts to organize a union and negotiate a first contract at five Burgerville locations. Now he’ll work full-time helping educate workers in retail and food service about how to form a union and their rights under state and federal law.
Modeled on a similar program in Ithaca, New York, the Worker Center project of Portland Jobs With Justice is a response to an explosion of union interest among low-paid service workers.
