Oregon, California, and Washington are the three best states to work in—in that order—according to a new report by the global antipoverty nonprofit Oxfam. Since 2018, Oxfam has been surveying all 50 states plus Washington DC and Puerto Rico to catalog and rate state policies that have an effect on workers’ lives. The group publishes an annual report that tracks 26 policies and ranks the states from best to worst. The report focuses on policies that bolster wages, worker protections, and workers’ right to organize a union.
