Oregon primary early results

Oregon unions looked poised to celebrate a night of electoral victories when this issue went to press May 17, election night.

The night’s biggest impact could be the race for labor commissioner, where staunch union ally Christina Stephenson was outpolling all others.

In the race for governor, union-backed former House Speaker Tina Kotek had a big lead over fellow Democrat Tobias Read.

In heavily contested Democratic Congressional primaries, Andrea Salinas and Val Hoyle looked to easily win their races. Hoyle will face Alek Skarlatos in November in the race to succeed Congressman Peter DeFazio, but it was too early to pick a winner in the crowded Republican field. Meanwhile, labor favorite Jamie McLeod-Skinner could be on track to oust incumbent Kurt Schrader based on early returns.

Look to our June 3 issue for a more comprehensive labor take on the election results.
