Portland Fire Fighters Association Local 43 turned 100 years old on Feb. 28. In honor of the historic occasion, Oregon U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley presented the local with an American flag that flew over the U.S. Capitol. The presentation was made May 3 at Fire Station 1 in downtown Portland. Local 43 President Alan Ferschweiler said the flag will fly at the union hall in Southeast Portland. Local 43 represents 700 firefighters at 30 fire stations in the City of Portland and at the Port of Portland.
