The Executive Board of the Oregon Building Trades Council has chosen Ironworkers organizer Robert Camarillo to succeed Tim Frew as executive secretary.
The council coordinates the state-level political efforts of 21 affiliated building trades unions with a total membership of about 25,000 construction workers. Executive secretary is the council’s top elected office and is a full-time position.
Frew, who served one two-year term as executive secretary, is seeking election as business manager of IBEW Local 280, a position he held from 2009 to 2015.
Camarillo was most recently an organizer for the Pacific Northwest Regional Council of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers. He previously served as business agent, vice president and president of Iron Workers Local 29, where he completed his apprenticeship. He also served as president of the Columbia-Pacific Building Trades Council.
