In officer elections held Dec. 10, members of Portland-headquartered International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) Local 23 elected Lance Hilger president. Also elected were Lance Martin, vice president; Bob Pyne, treasurer; Dan Garrett, recording secretary; Gene Stratton, warden; Reo Anderson, correspondent; Russ Vollendorf, trustee; and Mike Lovely and Dan Garrett, executive board. Members also elected three delegates to the union’s July 11-15 national convention in Chicago — Lance Hilger, Lance Martin, and Dave Tremain. They’ll be accompanied to the convention by Randy Carmony, Local 23’s full-time business representative.
Local 23 represents skilled workers in Oregon and southwest Washington who install, maintain and repair elevators, escalators, and moving walkways. They work for four global elevator companies — Otis, ThyssenKrupp, Kone and Schindler — plus seven independents.
Portland’s multi-story building boom has added 45 new members to Local 23 in the last two years, and has kept the out-of-work-between-jobs bench nearly empty.
Wages will reach $49.86 an hour as of Jan. 1, plus $30.29 an hour in fringe benefits — under the union’s national master agreement with employer group National Elevator Industry, Inc. (NEII). That agreement runs through July 8, 2017.
